Buliisa is located approximately 80 kilometres, by road, northwest of Masindi, the largest town in the sub-region. The coordinates of the town are: 02 10 30N, 31 24 00E (Latitude: 2.1750; Longitude: 31.4000).
Buliisa is a small town on the north-eastern shores of Lake Albert. The town has gained prominence during the 2000s because of the large hydrocarbon deposits which have been discovered underground in the district and elsewhere in the Bunyoro sub-region.
