Masindi is located approximately 214 kilometres northwest of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city, on an all-weather tarmac highway. The coordinates of the town are: 01 41 01N, 31 43 20E (Latitude: 1.6835; Longitude: 31.7222).
Masindi is a town in north-western Uganda, which lies on the road from Kampala to the Murchison Falls National Park. It is the 'chief town' of the Masindi District and the district headquarters are located there.
As capital of Bunyoro, Masindi was visited by Samuel Baker, a British explorer and anti-slavery campaigner, from 25 April 1872 to 14 June 1873. The Baker expedition was forced to withdraw because of the hostility of the Omukama Kabalega, the Bunyoro king.
